Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of Renten's website and mobile application. By creating an account or using Renten, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use our platform.
1. About Renten
Renten is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace that connects people who want to rent items with people who own those items. Renten is operated by Shirru (registered business entity, Mumbai, India). We act as a platform — we are not a party to rental agreements between users.
2. Eligibility
To use Renten you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be an Indian resident with a valid Aadhaar number
- Complete our KYC verification process
- Provide accurate and truthful information
- Have legal authority to list items you put up for rent
3. User Accounts
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- Notify us immediately at hello@renten.in if you suspect unauthorized use
- One person may not maintain multiple accounts
- Accounts are non-transferable
4. KYC Verification
All users must complete Aadhaar OTP-based KYC verification before renting or listing items. This is mandatory for platform safety. By completing KYC you consent to:
- Your identity being verified through Aadhaar OTP
- Your KYC status being stored on our platform
- Your identity information being shared with our licensed KYC partners
5. Listing Items
As an item owner (lister) you agree that:
- You own or have legal right to rent out the listed item
- All listing information (photos, description, condition) is accurate
- You will honour confirmed bookings and make the item available
- You will not list stolen, illegal, or prohibited items
- You are responsible for setting a fair security deposit amount
- You will handle items with care upon return and report damage within 24 hours
⚠️ Prohibited items include: weapons, drugs, vehicles, perishable goods, counterfeit products, adult content, and any item illegal under Indian law.
6. Renting Items
As a renter you agree that:
- You will use rented items only for their intended purpose
- You will return items on time and in the same condition as received
- You are liable for any damage caused during the rental period
- You will not sublet or transfer rented items to third parties
- You will pay the agreed rental amount plus security deposit
- Late returns may incur additional charges at the owner's daily rate
7. Payments & Security Deposit
- All payments are processed through our secure payment partners
- Rental amounts are held in escrow until the rental is completed
- Security deposits are released to the renter within 48 hours of successful return
- In case of damage, the deposit may be partially or fully withheld
- Owner payouts are processed within 24 hours of rental completion
- Renten charges a 10% platform fee on each successful rental
- All prices are inclusive of GST unless stated otherwise
8. Cancellations & Refunds
- Cancellations made 24+ hours before rental start: full refund
- Cancellations made within 24 hours: 50% refund
- No-show by renter: no refund
- Item unavailable due to owner: full refund + ₹100 compensation
- Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days to original payment method
9. Disputes
If a dispute arises between a renter and owner:
- Both parties must first attempt to resolve it directly
- If unresolved, contact Renten support at support@renten.in
- Renten will mediate and make a final decision within 7 business days
- Renten's decision on deposit disputes is final
- Evidence (photos, messages) must be submitted within 24 hours of rental end
10. Prohibited Conduct
You must not:
- Use Renten for any illegal purpose
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
- Post false, misleading, or fraudulent listings
- Attempt to bypass our payment system (cash deals outside platform)
- Scrape, copy, or reproduce our platform content
- Create fake reviews or manipulate ratings
- Share another user's personal information without consent
11. Limitation of Liability
Renten is a marketplace platform. We are not responsible for:
- The quality, safety, or legality of listed items
- The accuracy of listing descriptions
- Actions or behaviour of users on or off the platform
- Loss or damage to items during rental (beyond the security deposit system)
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Our maximum liability to any user is limited to the transaction value of the relevant rental.
12. Account Termination
Renten reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Violate these Terms of Service
- Engage in fraudulent or abusive behaviour
- Receive multiple verified complaints from other users
- Provide false KYC information
You may delete your account at any time by contacting hello@renten.in
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
14. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or app notification. Continued use of Renten after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
